While Hummus is the topic of today's post, since hummus is made from chickpeas you could argue that I'm cheating. That's ok.
Hummus is made from cooked, mashed chickpeas, a little bit of Tahini and some herbs and spices. Chickpeas are high in fiber (good for digestion) and also protein. They do not contain any cholesterol or saturated fats.
Tahini is FULL of fat and calories, but as a general rule it is used sparingly in hummus recipes. Also, it is high in calcium and protein.
I usually eat hummus in a whole wheat wrap along with some spinach. My favorite brands are Sabra and Trader Joes (epecially the Tomato Basil flavor). What's your favorite kind?
